Mobile golf carts are increasingly gaining use in communal, park, resort, and golf course travel. However, similar to any car, their performance is largely determined by the state of their batteries. The cart becomes slow, drains power fast, and has expensive repairs when the battery is not taken care of. Nevertheless, with proper battery maintenance, you have more rides, high efficiency, and long battery life.
The following are a few of the easy maintenance tips to maintain your mobile golf cart battery.
1. Keep the Battery Clean and Dirt-Free
The top of the battery may become dirty, dusty, and corroded. This accumulation has an impact on performance due to the inability to conduct electricity properly. When a battery is clean, it is always better.
Always wipe the battery with a damp cloth to get rid of dust. Whenever you see some white or green corrosion on the terminals, wipe it off lightly with baking soda and water. This basic maintenance routine keeps the battery healthy and prevents its abrupt failures.
2. Check Water Levels Regularly
Most of the mobile golf cart batteries are lead-acid batteries, which require water to work effectively. Battery plates may also break permanently when the water is lowered too much. That results in less power and premature replacement of batteries.
Monitor the level of water in the checks at least every month. Never use tap water but rather distilled water, as it does not produce any mineral deposits. This simple routine can significantly extend the life of your battery.
3. Avoid Overcharging the Battery
Battery damage due to overcharging. Leaving a battery in a plugged socket will decrease its size and increase heat production over its usual level. This gradually decreases the number of charging cycles that the battery can perform.
Overcharging can be avoided using a smart charger or an automatic shut-off charger. These chargers prevent the process of charging when the battery is full. An overcharged battery has a shorter life, and it has a lower capacity.
4. Charge the Battery After Every Use
There are golf cart owners who leave their battery to almost run out before recharging it. This can be effective with phones, but not golf cart batteries. Deep discharges cause battery stress and reduce their lifespan.
Rather, habitually recharge the battery with each use, even when you are on the cart for only a small distance. Therefore, the battery will be charged at all times to provide better output, steady power, and stable performance over extended rides.
5. Store the Battery in a Cool and Dry Place
Radical temperatures influence battery life. The battery loses water to heat, and its capacity is less in very cold conditions. When you do not use your golf cart, the battery can run out.
When storing your golf cart, store it in a dry, cool, and clean place. When you will not use the cart for a few weeks, disconnect the battery. Therefore, it is important to maintain a full battery before storage.
